Michael Payne commands the offense for Chargers win

Recap: Cholla Chargers vs. Rincon/University Rangers

The Cholla Chargers posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Rincon/University and snuck past 69-67. Winning may never get old, but Cholla sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cholla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michael Payne led the charge by scoring 21 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jerry Mendoza, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Cholla has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Rincon/University, they bumped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cholla will take on Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ironwood Ridge has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 13. As for Rincon/University, they will head out on the road to face off against Cienega at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Cienega's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
