Baseball Recap: Taylor Comes Up Short

Taylor entered their match against Atlantic on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Taylor Wildcats took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Atlantic Sharks. The contest marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Taylor saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Fender, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Fender has posted since back in April of 2024. Kendall Ganung also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Taylor and nudges their season record down to 3-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 4-1 Mainland (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 81.7% over those games). As for Atlantic, their record now sits at 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Taylor will welcome Warner Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Taylor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season. As for Atlantic, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mainland at 4:30 p.m. Atlantic's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Mainland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
