Basketball Game Preview: Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders vs. Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs

Cardinal Gibbons is 0-10 against Southeast Raleigh since January of 2018 but things could change on Saturday. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will head out to challenge the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Cardinal Gibbons came up short against Millbrook and fell 32-20. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th, while the Wildcats are ranked 133rd).

Charlotte Fusco was Cardinal Gibbons' leading scorer, having posted five points. Sarah Maciariello took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Southeast Raleigh over Corinth Holders in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Southeast Raleigh blew Corinth Holders out of the water with a 59-14 final score. With the Bulldogs ahead 34-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Cardinal Gibbons' defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-5. As for Southeast Raleigh, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

Cardinal Gibbons couldn't quite finish off Southeast Raleigh in their previous meeting back in February of 2021 and fell 53-50. Can Cardinal Gibbons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
