Christian and Point Loma are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Patriots will welcome the Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Christian 3.1, Point Loma 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Christian came up short against Cathedral Catholic and fell 8-5.
Christian saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sienna Staite, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Point Loma ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against Scripps Ranch by a score of 5-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 25, 2018, but that streak is no more.
Remington Spangler made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Poulin, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Point Loma's win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Christian, they dropped their record down to 9-11-1 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
