Football Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Garner Trojans + How To Watch

The Smithfield-Selma Spartans will head out to take on the Garner Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Smithfield-Selma has given up an average of 27 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Smithfield-Selma is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Clayton on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Spartans were beaten by the Comets 43-7. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-0.

Meanwhile, Garner had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they went ahead and made it four last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs, sneaking past 28-26.

Garner's win came from a few key players Smithfield-Selma will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Christian Ormandy, who rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 110 yards while completing 73.7% of his passes. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024.

Garner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Garner's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Ryan Hebert was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making eight total tackles.

Smithfield-Selma's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Garner, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
