Volleyball Recap: Marley Highland Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley

After losing to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley the last time they met, Flanagan-Cornell decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Flanagan-Cornell won by a set and slipped past Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Flanagan-Cornell.

Flanagan-Cornell had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-16, 25-23.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Flanagan-Cornell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marley Highland, who had four aces. That's the most aces Highland has posted over her last seven matchups. Another player making a difference was Carleigh Pfaff, who had 16 digs.

They weren't the only good server: Flanagan-Cornell was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Flanagan-Cornell's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Flanagan-Cornell will venture away from home to take on Tremont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, they will take on Salt Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
