Baseball Recap: Plattsburgh Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Plattsburgh dropped their record down to 5-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell 11-8 to the Peru Nighthawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Nighthawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Monday.

Plattsburgh saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Baker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

As for Peru, the win keeps they at an undefeated 11-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average this season.

On Peru's side, Deacon Whitmarsh and Keegan Theriault were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Whitmarsh pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Theriault tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Whitmarsh has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Whitmarsh went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Theriault got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Those four hits gave Whitmarsh a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ashtyn Catlin was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Kalib Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Plattsburgh will challenge Ticonderoga at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Peru, they will square off against AuSable Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Nighthawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
