Baseball Recap: Apollo Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Apollo barely beat McLean County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Apollo's pitcher stepped up to hand McLean County a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Grayson Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Carder, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Garrett Lanham was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Apollo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McLean County only managed one hit.

Apollo's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for McLean County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apollo will face off against O'Fallon at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for McLean County, they will take on Todd County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
