After a string of four wins, Winston-Salem Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Carver Yellowjackets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Phoenix came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 304th).

When it comes to explaining why Winston-Salem Prep lost, don't look at Brandon Rorie. Despite the final result, he posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Hahsasah Simmons, who scored nine points.

Carver's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jeremiah Glaspie, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiquan March, who earned 11 points.

Winston-Salem Prep's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-2. As for Carver, they pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Winston-Salem Prep has already played their next game, a 75-31 win against Phoenix Academy on the 24th. As for Carver, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-44 victory against Triad Math and Science Academy on the 24th.
