Softball Recap: Markesan Has No Trouble Against Montello

Markesan never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past the Montello Hilltoppers 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won three games by 15 runs or more so far this season.

Hannah Stellmacher made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ali Kirker, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Minnema, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Markesan's win bumped their record up to 3-5-2. As for Montello, they dropped their record down to 0-10-1 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Markesan will take on Johnson Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Montello, they will challenge Cambria-Friesland at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cambria-Friesland will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Montello surely won't give up without a fight.
