Baseball Recap: Mentor Makes It Eight in a Row on the Road

After losing to Strongsville the last time they met, Mentor decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cardinals walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Mustangs on Monday. The win was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on four straight.

Pat Collins tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mentor let Brayden Bortnick and Tyson Cendrowski run wild. Bortnick went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Cendrowski went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Bortnick has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Wieland, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mentor's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for Strongsville, they moved to 13-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Mentor will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
