Volleyball Game Preview: Pueblo South Colts vs. Atlas Preparatory School Gryphons

The Pueblo South Colts will square off against the Atlas Preparatory School Gryphons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo South is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Pueblo South had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt James Irwin on Tuesday. Pueblo South put the hurt on James Irwin with a sharp 3-0 win. While the Colts didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Pueblo South was: they took every set by at least 16 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-8, 25-4.

Luke Vasquez and Eryc Heredia were among the main playmakers for Pueblo South as the former had 11 digs and ten aces and the latter had seven digs and three aces. Heredia has been hot for a while, having also posted 15 or more assists the last 12 times he's played. Rhylee Daniel also deserves some recognition as he had his first dig of the season.

Pueblo South couldn't miss and finished the game having scored on 42.6% of their attack attempts. That's the best hitting percentage they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Atlas Preparatory School came up short against Thomas MacLaren School on Wednesday, falling 3-0. The Gryphons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The final score came out to 25-12, 25-18, 25-11.

Atlas Preparatory School's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Pueblo South, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
