Basketball Recap: Grace Workman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cottage over Cross Keys

Cottage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 41-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cross Keys Phoenix. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-43 back in November of 2024.

Cottage's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Workman, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Workman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabby Pressnall, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cottage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Cottage's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Cross Keys, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Cottage won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Non Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cross Keys, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on St. Mary's Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th.
