Basketball Recap: Tekinia Dixon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Aiken over North Augusta

South Aiken won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They lost 42-20 to the North Augusta Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked second).

Several Thoroughbreds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tekinia Dixon, who posted nine points. Myracle Culbreath was another key player, putting up three points along with five rebounds and three steals.

North Augusta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenedi Wright led the charge by posting 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Traeona Davis, who put up four points and five rebounds.

South Aiken's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-6. As for North Augusta, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

South Aiken will host Gray Collegiate Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gray Collegiate Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season. As for North Augusta, they will venture away from home to challenge Airport at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Airport: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while North Augusta has snatched up 12 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
