Baseball Recap: Serra Comes Up Short

Serra had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-14 to make it four. They lost 11-1 to the St. Bernard Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-5 back in March.

Serra saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was TIM PRYOR, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for St. Bernard, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

On St. Bernard's side, Juan Sandoval spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. Sandoval has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lorenzo Davis, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Royce McKenzie, who went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Serra has already played their next matchup, an 11-1 victory against St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy on the 4th. As for St. Bernard, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-2 win against Wiseburn- Da Vinci on the 29th.
