Basketball Game Preview: Calvary Baptist Cougars vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs

The Calvary Baptist Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Costa Mesa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calvary Baptist has three straight victories, Costa Mesa has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Calvary Baptist is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing The Grove School: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Calvary Baptist blew The Grove School out of the water with a 72-37 final score. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Calvary Baptist's win last Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nathan Moussa, who made all 5 shots he took to post 10 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Gavin Quizon, who went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points.

Calvary Baptist was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Grove School only posted one assist.

Meanwhile, Costa Mesa came up short against Tustin last Tuesday, falling 64-42. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 613th, while the Tillers are ranked 204th).

Calvary Baptist's win bumped their record up to 20-8. As for Costa Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 10-17.
