Baseball Recap: St. Ignatius Comes Up Short

St. Ignatius had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it six. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Calvary Christian Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 6-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2022.

As for Calvary Christian, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games.

For Calvary Christian's part, they gave Caden Schlotterbeck the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Schlotterbeck has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Calvary Christian got a big performance out of Brett Garcy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles Garcy has posted since back in April of 2025. Jase Traina was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, St. Ignatius will take on Brunswick at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Calvary Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
