Basketball Recap: Ocean Springs Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Layla Daley and Starr Jackson

Ocean Springs was the 41-30 winner over Daphne when they last played one another back in December of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Greyhounds fell 49-37 to the Trojans on Monday. The loss was the Greyhounds' first of the season.

Despite the defeat, Ocean Springs had strong showings from Starr Jackson, who went 5-for-12 on her way to 18 points, and Layla Daley, who posted eight points and 11 boards. Jayla Padowitz also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Daphne's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamorya Johnson led the charge by dropping a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards Johnson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Abagail Johnson, who put up 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ocean Springs fell to 8-1. As for Daphne, their record now sits at 4-2.

Ocean Springs didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-40 win against Bay on the 25th. As for Daphne, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-51 victory against East Rankin Academy on the 25th.
