Softball Game Preview: Richmond Raiders vs. Union Pines Vikings

The Richmond Raiders will challenge the Union Pines Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Richmond is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against East Mecklenburg on Thursday as Richmond made off with a 25-9 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Raiders considering their two-run performance the game before.

Meanwhile, Union Pines posted their closest victory since May 10, 2024 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Gray's Creek 5-4. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Bears on their field since May 3, 2017.

Kileigh Cameron was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Andrews, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Richmond's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Union Pines, their win bumped their record up to an identical 2-5.

Richmond came up short against Union Pines when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Richmond avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
