Basketball Game Preview: Eden Prairie Eagles vs. Wayzata Trojans

Eden Prairie and Wayzata are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Eden Prairie Eagles will face off against the Wayzata Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eden Prairie knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Wayzata likes a good challenge.

Eden Prairie is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Minnesota's top teams: Hopkins, who was ranked third at the time (Eden Prairie was ranked seventh). Eden Prairie fell just short of Hopkins by a score of 66-64 on Tuesday. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Eden Prairie might have lost, but man, Rae Ehrman was a machine: she almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Ehrman is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Tori Schlagel was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Meanwhile, Wayzata had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Royals 75-30. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 31 points or more this season.

Eden Prairie's loss dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Wayzata, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Eden Prairie was able to grind out a solid win over Wayzata in their previous matchup back in January, winning 81-73. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eden Prairie since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
