Football Game Preview: Springtown Porcupines vs. Western Hills Cougars

The Springtown Porcupines will venture away from home to face off against the Western Hills Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Springtown knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Western Hills likes a good challenge.

Springtown's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 59-0 win over Diamond Hill-Jarvis. Fans of the Porcupines have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Springtown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Teagan Hair, who rushed for 136 yards on only seven carries. Hair's longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another signal caller making a difference was Kaine Hill, who threw for 72 yards and three TDs on perfect 5-for-5 passing.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Springtown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 207 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Diamond Hill-Jarvis didn't rushed for any.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Springtown's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Rome Ewell and Kasen Beaman, who racked up five sacks between them. Ewell has been hot for a while, having also posted six or more total tackles the last ten times he's played.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 76 points the game before, Western Hills was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They had to suffer through a 70-7 loss at the hands of Decatur. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 879th, while the Eagles are ranked 187th).

Western Hills' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Springtown, their record now sits at 8-0.

Everything came up roses for Springtown against Western Hills when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 48-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Porcupines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
