Baseball Recap: Caston Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Newton

Caston had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the South Newton Rebels on Saturday as they made off with a 22-2 victory. The Comets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

London Herd and Noah Herd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Herd pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Noah pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Herd got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and four RBI, while Noah got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave London a new career-high.

In other batting news, Caston let Parker Zimpleman and Tucker Woolever run wild. Zimpleman got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI, while Woolever went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave Zimpleman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew McGrew, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Caston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Newton only posted a batting average of .176.

The win (which was Caston's fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for South Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-23.

Caston didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-0 loss against Tri-County on the 2nd. South Newton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
