Recap: New Hanover Wildcats vs. Hoggard Vikings
After flying high against the North Brunswick Scorpions last Wednesday, the New Hanover Wildcats came back down to earth. New Hanover suffered a rough 60-39 loss at the hands of Hoggard on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat New Hanover has suffered against Hoggard since February 13, 2020.
New Hanover's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brianna Stanley, who scored 18 points, and Tamorie Wilson who scored seven points along with six assists and five rebounds. Tirema Vereen was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Sarah Elgart was her usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks for Hoggard. Elgart's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Tristan Shivers, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and four steals.
New Hanover's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3. As for Hoggard, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-1.
New Hanover will be playing in front of their home fans against West Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Brunswick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Hoggard, they will head out on the road to take on South Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully South Brunswick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday.
