Baseball Recap: Martin County Cardinals vs. Lawrence County Bulldogs

Martin County had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Lawrence County Bulldogs, falling 16-1. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 13-2 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in May of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Lawrence County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

For Lawrence County's part, Boedy Maynard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Maynard was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Eli Fletcher was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Gray Derifield was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Martin County will challenge Fairview at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lawrence County, they will square off against Morgan County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
