Preview: Goodwin Tech Gladiators vs. Cheney RVT Beavers

Goodwin Tech is 2-8 against Cheney RVT since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Goodwin Tech Gladiators will head out on the road to take on the Cheney RVT Beavers at 6:30 p.m. Goodwin Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Cheney RVT is ranked 22nd).

Goodwin Tech lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a tough 70-50 defeat at the hands of New Britain. Goodwin Tech has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Cheney RVT had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past Avon 77-34 at home. Cheney RVT has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Dam'nic Gittens was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dazhaun Copeland, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Goodwin Tech's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4. As for Cheney RVT, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Goodwin Tech was dealt a bruising 94-41 loss at the hands of Cheney RVT when the teams last played on January 2nd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gittens, who scored 33 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Now that Goodwin Tech knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
