Softball Game Preview: Conant Cougars vs. Palatine Pirates

The Conant Cougars will challenge the Palatine Pirates at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Conant will be strutting in after a win while Palatine will be coming in after a defeat.

Conant took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Hoffman Estates with a sharp 15-4 victory. Considering the Cougars have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jenny Ryan was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cailyn Kehoe, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Falcone was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Conant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoffman Estates only posted an OBP of .385.

Meanwhile, Palatine fell victim to Barrington and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 11-0 to the Fillies/Broncos. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Fillies/Broncos recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Palatine's loss dropped their record down to 8-8-1. As for Conant, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Everything went Conant's way against Palatine in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Conant made off with a 9-0 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
