Basketball Recap: Gaffney Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Dorman

On Tuesday, Gaffney faced Dorman in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Gaffney Indians took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dorman Cavaliers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 65-58 back in January.

Gaffney lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Shiriah Harris, who went 9 for 18 to rack up 19 points. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. Lauren Mathis was another key player, putting up nine points and five assists.

It was another big night for Morgan White, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 13 boards for Dorman. That's the most rebounds White has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Barlow, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 14 points.

Gaffney's defeat dropped their record down to 20-2. As for Dorman, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Gaffney has already played their next matchup, a 61-57 victory against Spartanburg on the 7th. As for Dorman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-63 loss against James F. Byrnes on the 7th.
