Preview: Lewisburg Patriots vs. DeSoto Central Jaguars
Lewisburg is 0-5 against DeSoto Central since August of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lewisburg Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the DeSoto Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Lewisburg is ranked 61st, while DeSoto Central is ranked 53rd).
Lewisburg might've scored the first points on Friday, but it was Oxford who claimed the real prize. Lewisburg took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oxford. It was the first time this season that Lewisburg let down their fans at home.
Despite their loss, Lewisburg saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gunner Gilmore, who threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Easton Fesmire, who picked up 124 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
DeSoto Central fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 29-12 victory over Horn Lake on Friday.
DeSoto Central found their leader in underclassman Eric Perry, who rushed for 27 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 173 yards and a touchdown. DeSoto Central also got help from Ty Holmes who showed off his sure hands for 89 receiving yards.
With Lewisburg's loss and Oxford's win, both teams now sport identical 6-3 records.
Lewisburg suffered a grim 35-14 defeat to DeSoto Central in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Will Lewisburg have more luck at home instead of on the road?
