Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert Edge). They breezed past the Verrado Vipers to the tune of 44-7 on Friday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.
Desert Edge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Byron Brandon out in front who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave Brandon a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Another signal caller making a difference was Blake Roskopf, who threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns while completing 86.4% of his passes.
Desert Edge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Camren Hamiel, Ramari Hodge, and Jordan Davis picked up one apiece. Hodge is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played. Desert Edge got some further help from Yahzeen Zion: he picked up a sack and made six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Despite the loss, Verrado still got an impressive performance from Immanuel Perry, who rushed for 93 yards and one score on only ten carries.
