Football Recap: Downey Starts Season with Win Against Notre Dame (SO) + How To Watch

Downey had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 win over the Notre Dame (SO) Knights. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Oscar Rios was nothing short of spectacular: he threw for 311 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 133 yards on only 14 carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. 121 of Rios' passing yards were hauled in by Jesus Rios.

Notre Dame (SO)'s loss came despite strong showings from Noel Washington and Wyatt Brown. Washington rushed for 115 yards and one TD while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, while Brown rushed for 60 yards and a pair of scores. Washington was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 62 yards.

Downey has already played their next contest, a 35-34 victory against Orange Vista on the 29th. As for Notre Dame (SO), they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 42-0 win against Bishop Alemany on the 29th.
