Softball Recap: Bound Brook Takes a Loss

Mount St. Mary Academy hit Bound Brook with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Crusaders fell just short of the Lions by a score of 6-5. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 5-3.

Isabella Marusiak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bound Brook saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kathy Reyes, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were Reyes' first of the season.

Bound Brook has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Bound Brook will challenge Rutgers Prep on Saturday. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, they will take on J.P. Stevens at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions are facing the Hawks at the right time seeing as the Hawks are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
