The Evangelical Christian Sentinels will venture away from home to challenge the LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evangelical Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Evangelical Christian managed to slip by North Fort Myers the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Evangelical Christian came up short against North Fort Myers on Friday, falling 18-8. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Sentinels, who until this game were averaging 3.43 runs allowed.
Karsyn Mootz was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Yzaguirre, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, LaBelle unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sebring. Cowboys/Cowgirls fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Blue Streaks since on Monday.
Abby Hicks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, LaBelle saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alana White, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Even though they lost, LaBelle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Evangelical Christian's defeat ended a 17-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2. As for LaBelle, their record is now 6-8.
LaBelle's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Evangelical Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. It's a different story for LaBelle, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain Evangelical Christian's hitters?
Evangelical Christian took their victory against LaBelle in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Evangelical Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
