Basketball Recap: Point Pleasant Comes Up Short

Point Pleasant was the 59-51 winner over Wayne when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Point Pleasant Big Blacks lost 65-40 to the Wayne Pioneers on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Big Blacks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while the Pioneers are ranked 24th).

Despite the loss, Point Pleasant still got an impressive performance from Carrsen Lambert, who went 8-for-17 en route to 23 points. Lambert is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Landyn Keefer was another key player, putting up four points and three steals.

Wayne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ronnie Staley out in front who went 8-for-15 on his way to 17 points along with eight boards and six steals. With that strong performance, Staley is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Colton Heck also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Point Pleasant has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Wayne, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Point Pleasant wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 51-17 loss against Marietta on the 6th. As for Wayne, they have also already played their next contest, an 81-39 victory against Poca on the 6th.
