Baseball Recap: Erie Has No Trouble Against St. Paul

While Erie put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for St. Paul. The Red Devils put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 15-0 win. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red Devils yet this season.

Parker Hughes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Eli Montee was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, four runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Erie's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-14-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Bryson Gildart, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Erie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Erie pushed their record up to 6-14-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for St. Paul, they are on a 28-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.

Erie will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair will be back at it again later today.
