Softball Game Preview: Dayton Bulldogs vs. Pomeroy Pirates

For the second straight game, Dayton will face off against Pomeroy. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dayton has three straight wins, Pomeroy has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Dayton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Pomeroy with a sharp 22-3 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Marissa Tupling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Tupling was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Tupling is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cindi Howard, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Dayton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matchups.

Pomeroy's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Dayton, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Pomeroy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dayton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game.
