Basketball Preview: Dorchester Longhorns vs. Hampton Hawks

The Dorchester Longhorns will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Hampton Hawks at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dorchester has four straight wins, the Hawks have seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Dorchester proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 22) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Nebraska Lutheran and snuck past 40-37.

Meanwhile, Hampton came up short against the Eagles on Thursday and fell 38-28.

The losing side was boosted by Nevaeh Lukassen, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 64.3% of Hampton's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Gilmore, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.

Even though they lost, Hampton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.

Dorchester's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. As for Hampton, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Dorchester against the Hawks in their previous meeting two weeks ago as the team secured a 67-28 victory. With Dorchester ahead 44-20 at the half, the match was all but over already.
