Softball Recap: Basic Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Basic had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Silverado Skyhawks 12-1 on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Wolves, who have now won six matches in a row dating back to last season.

Mia Frias and Melanie Hughes made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Frias tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hughes tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At bat, Frias scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Hughes scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Christensen, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Kilar, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Basic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Silverado and nudges their season record down to 1-2.
