Baseball Game Preview: Grimsley Whirlies vs. Ragsdale Tigers

The Grimsley Whirlies will venture away from home to square off against the Ragsdale Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Grimsley sitting on eight straight victories and Ragsdale on five.

Grimsley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Western Guilford an 18-0 shutout on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Jacob Benbow looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Clay Rosser and Sebastian Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Rosser scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Rodriguez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Will Rainwater also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Grimsley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Ragsdale made easy work of Southeast Guilford on Friday and carried off an 8-2 victory. Considering the Tigers have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Grimsley's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Ragsdale, their record now sits at 7-3.

Grimsley couldn't quite finish off Ragsdale in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can Grimsley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
