Basketball Recap: Mingo Central Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mingo Central had no problem doing just that on Friday. They secured a 56-50 W over the WestSide Renegades. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 55-45 back in December of 2024.

Mingo Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addie Smith, who posted 20 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Mingo Central's points. Gianna Akers was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 15 boards.

Smith wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Mingo Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. Mingo Central is 14-2 when they've passed the ball that well.

The victory was the third in a row for Mingo Central, bringing their record for this year to 14-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points over those games. As for WestSide, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Mingo Central will face off against Wyoming East at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wyoming East will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Mingo Central surely won't give up without a fight. WestSide does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
