Baseball Game Preview: Versailles Tigers vs. Celina Bulldogs

The Versailles Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Celina Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Versailles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Celina's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Versailles is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Memorial just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roughriders.

Versailles saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ross Francis, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Sam Deland was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Saturday. Celina walked away with a 9-6 victory over New Haven. Celina's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Tanner Wendel was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Chance Miller, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Celina's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4. As for Versailles, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Versailles took their victory against Celina in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
