Volleyball Preview: Salt Lake Academy Griffins vs. American Heritage Patriots

The Salt Lake Academy Griffins will square off against the American Heritage Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Salt Lake Academy made easy work of Wasatch Academy and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Griffins in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

While Salt Lake Academy won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 27-25, 25-12.

Gustavo Bombassaro Moro and Brock Rhodes were among the main playmakers for Salt Lake Academy as the former had six digs and three assists and the latter had eight kills and two blocks. Those three assists gave Bombassaro Moro a new career-high. Tegho Castillo also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Meanwhile, American Heritage had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Judge Memorial Catholic 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted since March 14th.

American Heritage got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. The final score came out to 25-22, 23-25, 29-31, 25-19, 16-14.

Salt Lake Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for American Heritage, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 6-7.
