League recap: Silsbee stuns Orangefield in upset

3A Region III District 21 recap October 1, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Silsbee, who took down 261st ranked Orangefield, 52-14.

The Tigers scaled the state rankings by moving to 195 from 315 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region III District 21. Silsbee was able to move up by topping the Bobcats 52-14.

West Orange-Stark's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dillon Sterling-Cole threw for 151 and 2 touchdowns and Will Johnson had 59 yards receiving. On the ground Chris James contributed 116 yards. Chris Horn helped West Orange-Stark's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 44 yards.

Sterling-Cole put up the best numbers through the air as the Mustangs beat Hamshire-Fannett. Sterling-Cole's favorite target this week was Johnson, who caught 2 passes for 59 yards.

On the heels of Sterling-Cole and James, West Orange-Stark has had great success on offense. Sterling-Cole is tops in the league in passing with 436 yards, while James has rushed for 404 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Bridge City's Malcolm Busby, with 166 yards on 7 catches.

Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Cornel Thompson's team takes on Hardin-Jefferson. The Mustangs' offense has scored 122 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Hawks have allowed only 42 on the year.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Buna takes on Bobby Mcgallion's team. As it stands, the Cougars are in first, while the Tigers are in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when West Orange-Stark takes on Hardin-Jefferson. The Mustangs have allowed 57 points this season, while dwayne dubois' team has given up 42. West Orange-Stark allowed 10 points last week as it beat the Longhorns.

The Mustangs were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fourth to second in 3A Region III District 21. West Orange-Stark defeated Hamshire-Fannett 36-10 earlier in the week.
