Basketball Recap: Madisonville Takes a Loss

After flying high against Crockett last Friday, Madisonville came back down to earth. The Madisonville Mustangs were outmatched by the Navasota Rattlers and fell 69-41. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while the Rattlers are ranked 631st).

Madisonville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-4 record this season. As for Navasota, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madisonville will head out to square off against Rusk at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Navasota, they are taking a road trip to take on Bellville at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Bellville: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Navasota has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
