If Piedmont Hills beats Prospect with nine runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Pioneer on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.
Ava Martinez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Leilani Ortiz and Isabella Paskert did most of the damage at the plate: Ortiz went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Paskert went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three RBI gave Ortiz a new career-high. Danie Pacheco was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Prospect got the win against Silver Creek on Friday by a conclusive 17-2.
Like Piedmont Hills, Prospect also got a great game from a two-way player: Kendall Tabora. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Tabora was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Isa Shields was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Dani Rauscher, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Prospect hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Piedmont Hills' victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Prospect, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Piedmont Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Prospect struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
