Softball Recap: Northwood Drops Highest Score of Season Against Portola

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwood). Everything went their way against the Portola Bulldogs on Monday as they made off with a 16-5 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Timberwolves with their most commanding win of the season.

Jessie Wendt and Natalie Keith did most of the damage at the plate: Wendt went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Keith went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Wendt a new career-high. Marissa Lee was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Northwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northwood's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Portola, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwood will venture away from home to take on Woodbridge at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Timberwolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Portola, they will take on University at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
