Basketball Recap: Centauri Comes Up Short

Centauri extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-5. They received a blow as they fell 50-32 to the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

When it comes to explaining why Centauri lost, don't look at Keaden McGinnis. Despite the final result, he posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayse Maestas, who earned six points.

As for Montezuma-Cortez, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games.

Montezuma-Cortez was led to victory by Trey Hall and Ah-Dae Lang. Hall shot 69% from the field en route to 21 points along with seven boards and six steals, while Lang went 7-for-13 on his way to 20 points and five steals. The contest was Hall's 11th in a row with at least 16 points. Wyatt Oliver was another key player, putting up two points.

Centauri wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-37 win against Bayfield on the 17th. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 74-46 victory against Alamosa on the 17th.
