Softball Recap: Sunlake Triumphs

Sunlake's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Lecanto Panthers 12-11. The win continues a trend for the Seahawks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Abi Avant was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Ward, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Sunlake's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Lecanto, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Sunlake will look to defend their home field on Friday against River Ridge at 7:00 p.m. As for Lecanto, they are taking a road trip to take on Nature Coast Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sharks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
