Baseball Recap: Nestucca Bobcats vs. Gaston Greyhounds
Nestucca extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gaston Greyhounds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Greyhounds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-6 on Tuesday.
As for Gaston, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.
For Gaston's part, Roman Potenzieri spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Potenzieri has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aiden Sheets was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Bozich, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
While Nestucca had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
