Softball Recap: Wayne Warriors vs. Springfield Wildcats
Wayne had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it 13. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Springfield Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-6 on Monday.
As for Springfield, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-9. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly five runs.
For Springfield's part, Leeauna Rardon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Jazzdyn Frock was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 1st. Katie Peterson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Wayne and Springfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Warriors will face off against Springboro at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (537 vs. 110). Meanwhile, Springfield (ranked 445th) will meet Fairmont (ranked 160th) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
