The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Cheyenne Wells, falling 63-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Genoa-Hugo/Karval has scored all season.

When it comes to explaining why Genoa-Hugo/Karval lost, one person who can't be blamed is Trey Smith. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 67.9% of Genoa-Hugo/Karval's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Cheyenne Wells found their leader in underclassman Corey Hill, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Hill is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Carson Noe, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval bumped their record down to 4-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Cheyenne Wells, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.

Greeley County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 265th in Kansas, while Cheyenne Wells is ranked 43rd in Colorado).
